Gilbos streamlines its product development process with Windchill

To tackle all these challenges with a view to the future, Gilbos launched two initiatives. As a first step, the R&D department switched to parametric CAD software. “Creo Parametric makes it easier to document product information within our model and offers greater scope for standardisation and configuration,” explains Bart.

In order to develop this standardisation and configuration in a centralised manner and, furthermore, to improve the flow of information, a Product Lifecycle Management system was introduced in a second phase: Windchill. This PLM software enables you to manage all data and processes throughout your product’s entire lifecycle. As Windchill is web-based, it allows non-designers to view visualisations of models, ensuring that everyone has access to accurate product information. A key aspect of this was assigning the correct permissions to the various stakeholders: “This allows us to determine who can view which part of a CAD component, but also which people have access to the information of our clients for whom we work as a subcontractor. In this way, we protect our clients’ intellectual property,” explains Bart.

Now that Gilbos has been using the new software for several months, Bart describes it as a successful project that has delivered a host of benefits. “Thanks to the automation of tasks via Windchill, our engineers are saving a great deal of time,” says Bart. “They can now focus more on design and spend less time on administrative tasks. This also helps to reduce errors. We are also seeing an increase in efficiency. This is evident from the fact that, despite the introduction of new CAD software – which does require some time, training and a new way of working from our staff – our business operations were able to continue uninterrupted.”

Bart is also keen to highlight Savaco’s role in the success of this project. “Our collaboration with Savaco on this project has gone very well. We appreciate the flexibility, the quick response and the excellent support provided by the Savaco team.” The continuous follow-up by Savaco is also a major advantage for Gilbos. Savaco expert Stijn adds: “Together with Gilbos, we are already thinking about the next steps. For instance, we plan to work on a more secure login soon and, with the help of Thingworx Navigate, make product documentation even more accessible within Gilbos. Furthermore, BOM Transformation Management and an integration with the ERP system are also on the roadmap. We are therefore keen to remain Gilbos’ trusted co-pilot in the near future.”
